The Times Higher Education 2024 ranking of young universities

As the world is changing and evolving more and more rapidly, specialists in the field of rankings of higher education institutions have rated universities less than 50 years old slightly differently than institutions.organizations, sometimes several of which have built up a reputation centuries.

The method used for the “Young University Ranking” is therefore based on criteria that are less focused on the weight of reputation, but remain focused on the essential missions of universities: training, research, knowledge transfer and their international perspectives.

Xin Xu, professor of higher education at the University of Oxford, commented on the rankings by saying that global higher education is “moving towards a state where there are several major powers, including the rise of ‘middle powers’.”

The top three in the rankings are:

  • Nanyang Technological University, Singapore;
  • Sciences and Letters of Paris – PSL Research University of Paris;
  • the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.

In 2024, four French branches are in the top 10

In this ranking of “world universities founded since 1974”, four French branches that were already ranked in 2023 are in the top 10 and have gained places!

  • Sciences and Letters of Paris – PSL Research University of Paris, 3rd in 2023 and 2nd in the rankings this year;
  • University Paris-Sarclay, now in 5th place, gaining seven places;
  • The Polytechnic Institute of Paris is sixth, gaining two places;
  • And Sorbonne-Université, which goes from 15th to 8th place.
