A Calgary paddle steamer has been searching abroad for a new crew after its former captain retired.

For example, Michael Lomov, a Ukrainian sailor, takes the helm of the SS Moyie. The boat is an imitation of Calgary’s iconic old boat that plied the waters of the rivers 125 years ago.

A special feature that caught the attention of the new captain: Look around you… it is an authentic place that you will not find anywhere else.

Michael Lomov has worked in the shipping industry for a long time, mainly in European countries, as has his second lieutenant, Paul-Khrystyan Kurganskyi, who is also Ukrainian.
