Casablanca: Abdelkader Boudraa replaces Said Naciri as head of prefectural council

LThe vacancy in the presidency of the Casablanca Prefectural Council, which has arisen since the arrest of Said Naciri in the context of the “Escobar of the Sahara” affair, will soon be filled. The decision on the presidency of the Casablanca Prefectural Council will be taken on the morning of Friday, July 5, when the members of the council will be called upon to elect their new president.

This session promises to be without tension, as the Party for Authenticity and Modernity (PAM) has proposed Abdelkader Boudraa as the only candidate to replace Said Naciri, who had sat under the same banner. “The position will remain under the control of the PAM in accordance with the ethical charter agreed by the parties of the coalition leading the various authorities in Casablanca.“, explains Karim Glaibi, member of the Casablanca Prefectural Council.

It should be remembered that Ahmed Brija, also a member of the PAM, had initially sought this position before withdrawing for legal reasons. Organic Law No. 112-14 on Prefectures and Provinces stipulates that the candidacy for the presidency of the Council of the prefecture or province is open to members who top the list of candidates who have obtained seats in the Council. In addition, “the candidates must belong to the lists classified in the first five positions with respect to the total number of seats obtained in the Prefectural Council,” according to the same law. However, Ahmed Brija occupies 6e place on a list where Abdelkader Boudraa is second.

In addition to electing the new president of the prefectural council, elected officials will also have to elect vice-presidents for the remainder of the current council’s term.
