A well-deserved honour for the Department of Accounting Sciences

On May 9, 2024, the prestigious award ceremony for the Ministerial Prize for Higher Education took place, during which professors Cynthia Allaire, Hélène Bergeron, Daphné Drouin and Émilie Portelance, from the Department of Accounting, distinguished themselves by receiving the Ministerial Prize in the category Teaching materials – Teaching materials complementary to 1uh university cycle. This prize was awarded to them for their Integrated Virtual Simulation – McLellan Microbrewerya multidisciplinary simulation they developed that is aimed at accounting students.

“We are particularly proud of this award, which not only highlights the quality of our work, but also our commitment to the motivation and success of our students for whom we developed this simulation,” says Professor Daphné Drouin.

Through company websites and intranets of organizations, the McLellan Microbrewery Simulation This allows you to reproduce the context of a company and an accounting firm (CPA Universe), where the student assumes different roles throughout their university career. Similar to what awaits them in the labor market, students are confronted with ambiguous and even destabilizing situations, but in a caring context that prepares them for their profession as a certified public accountant (CPA). Simulation is used in several courses of the baccalaureate in accounting sciences and helps to develop the ability to integrate the many skills necessary to practice the accounting profession.

The jury members also underlined the innovative nature of this simulation, which they describe as a modular and adaptable tool in which the material has everything it takes to be processed far beyond theory.

“We thank UQTR for providing the resources necessary to develop our simulation. We would also like to express our sincere thanks to Ms Chantal Couture, educational advisor at UQTR’s STI, and to her entire team, without whom we would not have been able to realise our vision,” said Professor Hélène Bergeron.
