On Sunday, June 30, the day Haiti celebrates Father’s Day, former Prime Minister Evans Paul (January 16, 2015 – February 26, 2016) delivered a message to all Haitian fathers:
Message from Evans Paul:
“On this special day, I wish all fathers who, in addition to being parents, fully take on their role as parents, a wonderful Father’s Day.
I salute these exceptional fathers who prove themselves worthy of the great responsibility of raising and guiding their children. These artisans of citizenship, who are shaping the next generation that perpetuates the ideals of greatness in our society, deserve to be honored.
I would like to draw particular attention to fathers who, sometimes against all expectations, have remarkably become heads of single-parent families, a role often taken on by mothers.
It is fitting to pay tribute to fathers, biological or not, who, after the death of their husband or through the absence and even voluntary abandonment of certain mothers, have committed themselves in an exemplary way to the essential mission of the family. These fathers, despite these complex situations, offer their children a loving and stable home.
These respectable men proved that a father’s love and devotion can rival that of a mother.
To all these fathers I say thank you and wish you a very happy Father’s Day. Your courage, love and dedication are an inspiration to us all. »
