The Loro Piana family, originally from Trivero, in northern Italy, started the wool trade in the early 19th century. In 1924, Pietro Loro Piana founded the company we know today, Ing. Loro Piana & C, which was taken over by his cousin Franco in 1941. After the war, the company built a solid reputation as a supplier of high-quality wool and cashmere to a thriving haute couture industry, both in Italy and internationally. In the 1970s, Sergio and Pier Luigi Loro Piana took control of the House. They are diversifying their activities into luxury products and developing their international distribution network. Today, Loro Piana, the number one in the world in cashmere, uses the world’s rarest and most precious raw materials: unique ‘baby cashmere’ from Northern China and Mongolia, vicuña from the Andes, extra fine merino wool from Australia and New Zealand even lotus flower fibers from Burma.
