The man, a local trader, reported to the La Rochette gendarmerie and admitted to having publicly insulted the candidate.
The Chambery prosecutor announced in a press release on Wednesday evening that a man had been placed in police custody “repeated death threats, insults and criminal violence” after the attack on Marie Dauchy, candidate for the National Rally in the 3rd constituency of Savoie, which took place this morning at a market in La Rochette (Savoie).
Put to work
The man, a local merchant, turned himself in to the La Rochette gendarmerie, the prosecutor said. The suspect admitted to publicly insulting the candidate and to having done so “clap the hands of the complainant” to drop the leaflets she was holding, but denies making death threats.
Marie Dauchy, a candidate for the National Rally, was distributing leaflets in the morning at the Rochette market when she was attacked by a man who, according to her complaint, threatened her with death several times, allegedly swore at her and tried to violently take the leaflets from her. The man also allegedly smashed the mobile phone of Marie Dauchy’s assistant, who was trying to film the scene, twice.
The candidate was completely incapacitated for a period of 8 days, the prosecutor said. The investigation is continuing to find possible witnesses on the scene.
