A Calgary paddle steamer has been searching abroad for a new crew after its former captain retired.
For example, Michael Lomov, a Ukrainian sailor, takes the helm of the SS Moyie. The boat is an imitation of Calgary’s iconic old boat that plied the waters of the rivers 125 years ago.
A special feature that caught the attention of the new captain: Look around you… it is an authentic place that you will not find anywhere else
.
Michael Lomov has worked in the shipping industry for a long time, mainly in European countries, as has his second lieutenant, Paul-Khrystyan Kurganskyi, who is also Ukrainian.

Return to a seven-day-a-week schedule
SS Moyie now cruises the Glenmore Reservoir as part of a park cruise Legacy.
The park communications director LegacyDominic Terry, believes this experience gives visitors a glimpse of what a steamboat journey might be like.
It is (…) unforgettable, he said. When you think about the park Legacyyou think of the train, the fair and the SS Moyie.
The paddle steamer operates seven days a week during the summer through Calgary’s Glenbow Reservoir.
The sailing schedule of the SS Moyie was changed following the retirement of Captain Andrew Hopper in 2022. He was at the helm of the boat for 21 years.
